Wild Flower – Milk Thistle – Silybum Marianum

Milk Thistle has red – purple flowers from June to August with pale green leaves. This spectacular plant reaches the height of 125cm. It has been grown as a medicinal plant in monasterial gardens since ancient times. It is also known as Marian Thistle, Mary Thistle, Saint Mary’s Thistle, Variegated Thistle and Scotch Thistle.

Sow in situ in the spring or early autumn. The seed usually germinates in 2 – 6 weeks at 10C.
