Centaurium Erythraea – Common Centaury

This is an attractive and fairly common wild flower, which features star-like flowers with bright pink leaves the that contrast with the butter yellow anthers.

Sow directly from February to May. Surface sow, not covering the seeds, but pressing them into the soil. The ideal temperature for germination is 20C, with germination taking around 3-9 weeks. Thin seedlings to around 15-30cm apart once germinated. It prefers a sandy, light soil which is well-drained in full or partial sun.
