Broccoli – Sprouting Summer Purple

This is a highly productive variety with many spears of tender green stems and purple florets. Superb for summer cropping as it has good heat tolerance, and it requires no vernalisation enabling it to crop much earlier than traditional broccolis.

Sow indoors, from January to March, 0.5cm deep, in a tray of compost. Water well and place in a warm position. A temperature of approx. 13C is ideal. Keep moist. Transplant 5cm apart to other trays, when large enough to handle. Gradually accustom young plants to outside conditions, avoid frosts, before planting out, 60cm apart during April or May, into well-cultivated, fertile soil. Allow 60cm between rows. Water well. Harvest from June to October.
