Beetroot – Burpees Golden

Burpees Golden was introduced in the USA in the 1940’s. It has a great mild taste with golden roots that can be lifted as baby beets, making an attractive addition to mixed salads, or left to mature. The orange roots turn a lovely golden colour when cooked.

Sow outdoors thinly, from April to July, where they are to crop, 2.5cm deep, directly into finely-prepared, well-cultivated, fertile soil, which has already been watered. Allow 30cm between rows. Seedlings usually appear in 7-21 days. Thin seedlings to 10cm apart. Water well until plants are established. Regular sowings, made every three weeks, should ensure a continuous supply of young beets. Harvest from June to October.
