Introduced in 1880, this old variety has red curly leaves and a good large, solid heart. Best sown spring or autumn, can grow all year round.

Sow from April onwards in modules ready to plant out from late spring onwards, with spacing of 35cm apart. Sow small quantities of seed at intervals to get a continuous harvest.
