• Onions prefer fertile soil with an abundance of regular water for best growth. They are shallow-rooted, so keep them well weeded to prevent competition. Sow in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked and plant successive crops every few weeks for a continuous supply.
• Onions have stopped growing when the leaves turn yellow and flop over. Harvest on a sunny day, and leave in a sunny place to cure for about one week.
