Bold and evergreen, Astelia Silver Spear forms striking clumps of broad, arching, silver, spear-like leaves that lend strong architectural presence to borders and containers. Best in a mild, sheltered site, it thrives in sun or light shade and in fertile, moist but well-drained, non-alkaline soil. Flowers are small and greenish; on female plants these may be followed by showy orange-scarlet berries. Protect from hard frost and cold, drying winds.
