Camellia japonica Bonomiana is an elegant evergreen with glossy dark green leaves and large pink, often streaked, blooms in spring. Best in partial shade and a sheltered spot, it thrives in moist but welldrained, humusrich acid (ericaceous) soil. Slow to moderate in growth, it forms an upright, bushy shrub that can be lightly pruned after flowering to maintain shape. Ideal as a specimen or in woodland-style and shaded borders, and suitable for containers with ericaceous compost.
