Leucothoe axillaris Curly Red is a compact, evergreen shrub grown for its distinctive crinkled foliage that flushes rich red in cooler weather, deepens through autumn and winter, and turns greener in summer. In spring it bears small, white, urn-shaped flowers. Ideal for containers or acid borders in partial to full shade, it prefers moist, humus-rich, acidic soil and a sheltered spot. Low-maintenance and neatly mounding, it provides year-round colour and texture.
