Fennel – Di Firenze

This variety produces large, crisp, white bulbs, with a mild ‘aniseed’ flavour. It is easy to grow and fast to mature. The feathery foliage makes an attractive garnish and is good for flavouring many dishes.

Sow outdoors thinly, from May to July, where they are to crop, 1.5cm deep, directly into finely-prepared, well-drained, fertile soil, which has already been watered. Allow 45cm between rows. Seedlings usually appear in 7-21 days. Thin seedlings to 20cm apart. Water well until plants are established. As the swollen stems start to develop, build earth up around them to preserve the whiteness and subtle flavour. Harvest from July to October.
