Black mondo grass is an evergreen, clump-forming perennial with leathery, arching, near-black, strap-like leaves; in summer it carries short racemes of small purplish flowers that are followed by blue-black berries. Grow in sun or partial shade in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Excellent for edging and ground cover, in containers, and for year-round contrast in mixed plantings; RHS Award of Garden Merit.
