Skimmia japonica Rubella is a compact, slow-growing evergreen noted for its deep red flower buds that decorate the plant through autumn and winter, opening to clusters of fragrant white spring flowers. Best in partial to full shade and in moist, humus-rich, well-drained, moderately fertile soil that is neutral to acid; avoid chalky/alkaline conditions. Ideal for containers, winter displays and shaded borders, forming a dense mound to around 11.5m over time; this male clone does not produce berries but can act as a pollinator for female skimmias.
