Meadowsweet Filipendula ulmaria

Meadowsweet is a fragrant plant native to damp meadows, distinguished by its attractive creamy white blossoms. Historically, it served as a strewing herb and was used to flavour beverages. Thriving along streams and moist grasslands, its flower heads contain high levels of salicylic acidthe compound that inspired the development of acetylsalicylic acid, commonly known as Aspirin. The name Aspirin itself originates from Meadowsweets former Latin classification, Spiraea ulmaria.

This is a spring germinating plant best sown in the autumn. It grows rapidly in the spring reaching full height in July.
