Stinking Iris – Iris Foetidissima

This is a fast growing iris that flowers in June. It grows well in a variety of places, tolerating shade and dry conditions. It has bright green leaves and pale purple/ lemon flowers. In the autumn the seed pods open up revealing the bright orange berries.

The seeds may need a period of cold before they will germinate. Sow the seed in the autumn and germination will start in the spring, otherwise refrigerate the seed before planting.
